Biography

Ann Shuptrine is an American-British Artist, Movement Catalyst, and Social Scientist based in London. Her practice investigates ways of ‘being’ that disrupt structures of division.

In visual, performative, and participatory pieces employing photography, video, installation, and performance, she situates the body as vessel, mirror, and metaphor of the social field. Ann holds containers of experimentation in which dialogical perspectives of witness, participant, and director, challenge fixed relational dynamics. Her body of work and research draws upon her multidisciplinary background, which includes Psychology, Photography, Sociology, Gestalt, Somatics, Dance and Systems Theory.

Dance was Ann’s first creative language. The moving, sensing, feeling body remains integral to her work. A fascination with the dance of relationship informs her exploration of that which binds yet divides us.
